The annual Kabaka birthday run, which is a celebration of the Buganda kingdom, is approaching. However, veteran singer Princess Sheilla Nvanungi is calling for it to be cancelled.
Buganda dignitaries, including Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga, officially launched the 2023 Kabaka birthday run on March 9, 2023, at Bulange, Mengo - Kampala. This year's run is scheduled for Sunday, April 16, 2023, and will be themed "The fight to end HIV/AIDS by 2030."
The King of Buganda Kingdom, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, is expected to flag off the run at Lubiri, Mengo - Kampala city.
However, Sheillah Nnvannungi believes that the celebrations should be halted due to Kabaka's health. According to her, it is inappropriate for people to celebrate while Kabaka is battling for his life.
In a video that is making the rounds, Sheilla Nvanuungi states that Kabaka is not only a traditional leader but also a human who faces health challenges like anyone else. She suggests that instead of holding celebrations, those in charge could organize a prayer session in which people ask God to heal the traditional leader.
She emphasized that she is not rallying Bagandas to oppose the festivities but is concerned about Kabaka's health. It should be noted that Kabaka's health has been a controversial topic for years, and he has been taken out of the country on several occasions for specialized medical treatment.
